Venezuela advances to World Championships Final Round

VenezuelaSan Juan de los Morros, Venezuela, August 12, 2009 — Venezuela became the first South American team to qualify for the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship after they comfortably beat Uruguay 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) to sweep the South America Pool B undefeated on the final day of competition at Domo Bolivariano.

Having beaten Paraquay and Ecuador on the two previous days of competition, Venezuela came up against their toughest opponent of the pool, taking a little of two hours to claim victory.
The first set saw Venezuela adjusting its game to the tempo on the match with captain Luís Díaz leading the way with 10 points to set up a very easy 25-15 win.
