Specific movements of volleyball players

Movements of a volleyball player and a ball are affected by their physical characteristics. Both types of movement are the basis for volleyball techniques. Flight of the ball may require relocation of volleyball players from one position to another. Volleyball player takes a different position on the field, in relation to net and a ball, and to the mode of action that is required in proper moment. Volleyball player acts on the ball by hitting the ball or suspending it. Hitting the ball is characterized by features of the collision between the parts of the body and ball. The most common form of collision is a hit with his hand. Hand-ball collision causes their deformation. Size of deformation depends on mass, strength, strong joints, hand speed and ball interaction with the hand.

When volleyball serving and spiking, the accuracy of a hit depends on the amount of energy transferred from the hands to the ball. The important factor is the kinetic energy of a hand. When serve receiving or spiking, the accuracy of collision depends of reducing kinetic energy of a ball. There are two specific situations. The first one is featured in high speed of a ball and firm hands. The second one is the essential force that carries the ball during the rebound of the hand, if the ball has a little speed.

Suspension movement and motion movements dominate in setting when fingers perform amortization of kinetic energy, perform acceleration of the ball and accuracy in hitting a target. This is achieved by several factors: covering large surface with fingers when contacting with the ball, reducing the strength hand joints, arms and legs and moving the body in the direction of the ball. At the time of ball contact, volleyball player starts his movement in the feet and ankle, and this movement continues in knees, shoulders, elbow, wrist and fingers.
